Tesco store plan for Hope Street
Archive, News — By admin on August 20, 2009 11:58I don’t want a Tesco there either. for the same reasons quoted in the article – no room for deliveries, parking and the effect on other stores. We use the newsagents at the top of Hardman St, I can’t see them surviving with a Tesco just a few metres around the corner.
Having said that, do you remember what used to be there? A grotesque, loud night club with a huge sign proclaiming ‘ROADKILL’ and next door was Fab Cafe which was also ugly in a different way. They didn’t exactly enhance the ambience of the street.

How would people view a Co-op ? Would their ethics overcome aesthetics ?
GS, maybe so. Personally I do find the Tesco Hate campaign a bit much and I’m not as bothered as some about the aesthetics. I’m more worried about the effect on the other small shops in the area and of course would rather the place was taken by something like an art gallery but not much chance of that.
1 Tesco wants to take over Liverpool! How many stores have they in the city centre?
2 Small businesses will not survive – this has already happened in so many areas.
3 Aesthetically the frontages on Hope Street should be retained.
There would be a bad affect on existing shops. Unsuitable for the cultural quarter. They are spreading like a rash!
